MEET OUR PATRONA

Our Patrona is Corinna Levine Dahlin, year-round resident of Puerto Vallarta for over 25 years. Born in Canada, she co-founded Vallarta Tequila Tastings ten years ago with her late husband, Ricardo (aka “Lobo” ) Verduzco Lopez.

Corinna, what do you love about your tastings?

I love to share my passion for the spirits of Mexico. I enjoy surprising people who thought tequila is only good for doing shots and getting drunk. I love it when they find out how delicious it is when sipped slowly in a relaxed tasting environment.

I love it when our guests discover that tequila is not the only Mexican spirit, when they discover new tastes through our offerings. As well as fine artisan tequilas, we feature mezcal, raicilla, bacanora, and sotol from small, artisanal distillers.

Does tequila hold any more surprises?

Many of our guests already enjoy tequila and want to learn more. I love to show them how each variant has its own unique taste, that an artisanal spirit tastes great on its own, and that the flavor of the spirit is enhanced when paired with the right food.

For example, we might have you try Reposado Tequila with a wedge of apple sprinkled with cinnamon, or a spoonful of smoky tortilla soup. The surprise? A fiesta in your mouth!

Moving VTT Forward

In the difficult years following Lobo’s tragic death in 2019, Corinna determined to honour his legacy by continuing to grow the business. (For more about Lobo, click here)

Fluent in Spanish, she connected with more artisanal distillers and producers, hired more event hosts and created Puerto Vallarta’s first “tasting garden” in vibrant Versalles, an emerging gastronomic neighborhood.

The Versalles location features two tasting venues: the Garden, a tropical oasis of indigenous trees, agaves and flowers, and the Frida Room, air-conditioned and illuminated by hand-blown Mexican glass creations.

Corinna added chocolate and food pairings to the tasting choices. Recognizing that other varieties of Mexican spirits were moving into the mainstream, she included them in her tastings in addition to tequila: Mezcal from Oaxaca and other states, Raicilla, a Jalisco specialty, Sonora’s Bacanora and Sotol from the states of Chihuahua and Durango.

For the more adventurous, Corinna has developed PV’s first Raicilla Field Tour, the Raicilla Road Trip where guests meet with artisan distillers in the countryside, sample the spirits and observe their production.

In designing VTT’s food pairings, Corinna researched the history of Mexican cuisine, working with her chefs and local choclatiers to ensure that a selection of authentic dishes would be presented to enhance the tasting experience of her guests.

Expanding her Knowledge

As visitors’ interest in Mexican spirits has escalated and broadened, Corinna has journeyed beyond Jalisco to other spirit-producing regions of Mexico, getting to know distillers and acquiring detailed knowledge of how they produce their spirits.

Guests frequently express surprise and appreciation for Corinna’s passion for her subject and the depth of her knowledge. She is always learning: travelling to Oaxaca, the largest producer of mezcal; attending major events and conferences in Tequila, the headquarters of many producers and in Durango, a state becoming better known for its mezcal and sotol. Her objective: be able to share information with her ever more educated guests.

Along the way, Corinna began to source her spirits more sustainably, from some of the smaller, family-owned distilleries.

Applying Her Skills As An Artist

Originally from the city of Thunder Bay in Northern Ontario, Corinna graduated from the specialized art program at Beal High School in London, Ontario and was accepted to the Emily Carr College of Art and Design in Vancouver, British Columbia. She completed her degree as a practicing fine artist in mixed media. She brings an artist’s eye to all her projects, from the design of the VTT garden, decor and furnishings to the striking presentation of the spirit tastings and matching food items chosen for each tasting experience.

Finding Success

Corinna is grateful to those who have helped make Vallarta Tequila Tastings a notable success, as evidenced by consistent 5-star reviews and repeat clients, invitations to exclusive spirits events, accolades in tourism and foodie websites.

In 2024 VTT was awarded a place by Trip Advisor in the Top Ten Percent of World Attractions.

Corinna’s recent interview with the popular website Chowhound was published online in February, 2025. (Click on this link to see the article.)
