Our Founder's Legacy

Ricardo Verduzco Lopez

May 15, 1975 - Nov. 18, 2019

We are extremely saddened by the sudden passing of the founder of VTT, Ricardo Verduzco Lopez, (aka Lobo, aka Wolf), on November 18, 2019, at the age of 44.

A native of the state of Michoacán, he traveled extensively in Mexico to study tequila’s origins and sample its subtleties as created by small, artisanal producers. He noted that the appreciation of tequila in its many forms is a growing trend for people who love good food and drink.

“Tequila has been a staple of Mexican civilization since the Pre-Columbian era,” said Ricardo with pride. He believed it was his privilege to conduct tastings for groups or individuals who already enjoy tequila or for those seeking an introduction to this iconic spirit."

“Growing up in the United States, I only experienced tequila as party drink that you’d drink in a shot glass,” Ricardo said. “Not until I moved here to Puerto Vallarta in Jalisco – the “Tequila Capital” – did I realize just how sophisticated this spirit was. I learned how to slowly savour the tastes, textures and aromas of the many varieties of tequila and mezcal.”

Our beloved Lobo is remembered with affection by all who met him - for his passionate love of Mexico, its history and the role of these spirits in our culture.

Our Tasting Hosts are trained to meet Lobo’s exacting standards, ready to share their knowledge of Mexico and and its spirits with our guests. Their consistently high ratings speak for themselves.

We honor Our Founder’s memory by continuing to educate and inspire our guests to delight in the fascinating world of Mexican spirits.
